How Much Should I Budget for My Project?
What does a typical remodeling project cost?
Among the many answers, you should
ask a few simple questions...
- How old is your home?
- How
large of a project are you embarking on?
- What finishes are
you hoping to use?
Remodeling is not a science — it's an art, but
while painting the canvas we've been able to define "approximately"
what you can expect to pay for the types of projects we build.
NOTE: None
of these costs are by any means a hard cost —
they are simply an
average of what our clients have
invested in their homes.
Complete Bathroom
Make-Over
Approximate Cost and Budget
$20,000 & Up
Our
bathroom makeovers typically are designed by an interior designer
or an architect and most likely the old bathroom will be totally
gutted.
Plumbing
fixtures might be moved to accept new finishes such as an in-wall
faucet or the addition of a Jacuzzi tub.
The room will have
all new finishes which are typically of mid-grade pricing points,
but may include features such as a Euro Glass shower door, new
cabinets, granite or slab counter tops, travertine or like flooring,
a custom poured shower pan with mosaic floor and wall tiles set
on an angle and in-floor electric heat.
Complete Kitchen Remodel
Approximate Cost and Budget
$65,000 & Up
For
us, our average kitchen is always professionally designed by a
certified kitchen designer and typically includes totally gutting
the space.
An update of the electrical for new lighting and
switching, as well as, plumbing updates and relocates for that "new"
kitchen design.
The finishes would be of mid-grade price point with
new custom cabinets, mosaic backsplash, slab granite counter tops,
stainless steel or integral appliances and new flooring.
Master
Suite/Master Bath Make-Over
Approximate Cost and Budget
$40,000 & Up
A
typical master suite is usually designed by an interior designer
or architect and most likely will have a five piece (tub, separate
shower, two sinks and a toilet) as opposed to the bath make-over
listed above which is normally a three piece.
The space most
likely will be gutted with new plumbing and electrical as required.
It might have a skylight added with a custom euro shower as the focal point
of the room.
All new finishes would include mid
grade price points on cabinets, slab tops, flooring, and plumbing
and electrical fixtures.
It might also include a built-in
A.V. cabinet for a T.V. in the master bedroom as well
as new paint and trim throughout the space.
Basement Remodel/Design
Approximate Cost and Budget
$50/Square Foot & Up
This
basement assumes 1000 square feet of space and would most likely
be designed by an interior designer or architect.
It would have paint
grade trim, a three piece bath, one bedroom, a laundry room, a
family room and a storage/mechanical room.
All finishes
would be mid-grade. The bath might have a tiled floor, a poured
pan shower with euro glass door, built in bench and mosaic floor
with new cherry cabinets and slab counter tops.
The family
room might have a built in entertainment system and fire place
with custom cabinet surround as the focal point.
Addition or Whole House Make-Over
Approximate Cost and Budget
$200/Square Foot & Up
Additions
and whole house make-overs are almost always designed by an architect
and tend to be the most complex and expensive because of the infrastructure
that needs to be expanded and updated.
From the gas line
size needed to accommodate the new fireplace to the electrical
service that needs to be relocated and on to the furnace system
that is now too small — it all adds cost... not to mention
we have not even talked about finishes!
One thing is certain,
the smaller the addition or space made over, the more expensive
the square foot costs will get.
